It's a work horse

Oh, glorious day of days, our desk is here! Our second bedroom is going through its third facelift, and this time it's going to be one heck of a hard worker. It already houses a spare boxspring and mattress (which we're trying to pass off as a daybed), and now it has THE DESK.

It's a desk we've been coveting for months at Crate and Barrel, but one that we couldn't pull the trigger on. (The price tag was just too monumental for us. We're planning a wedding after all.) We fell in love with the reclaimed wood--originally lumber from fallen telephone poles. We swooned over the masculine and modern legs. We dreamed design dreams built around this piece, but we just couldn't take it home.

That is until I wandered into the store during a clearance sale. They were moving all of the floor pieces, and in the back of the haphazard pile sat THE DESK. It was covered with light fixtures, and hidden behind wayward buffets and bar pieces. But through all of the debris, I could see a glimpse of that worn surface. A hop, a leap and two crossed fingers later and I found out that the price tag was more than 30 percent off. And while we're pinching pennies for the hope of a South African honeymoon, we couldn't pass up this deal.

The one downside was that delivery took nearly a month, and that it was only available on a day that I was out of town. (Thank you, Vicky, for letting the movers in.) But now it's here, and I almost don't know what to do with myself. So far, we've played with placement. First it lived along the far wall, but that was temporary. Now the desk lives here:

Let's face it--a desk with a window view wins every time. So its current spot will probably be its home for the long haul. Now we need a chair and maybe an accessory or two. Clearly curtains are on the list of must-haves, too. But all of that can wait, because my excitement over THE DESK's arrival trumps all.

Excuse me, I'm gonna go stare at the new furniture for a little while...
